Notice on
COVID-19
What matters most to us at IECH is that you, your family members, and our staff stay safe. For this reason, we adhere to the safety and health rules, procedures, and protocols that the Ministry of Health has established during the COVID-19 pandemic
During all procedures, our staff wears personal protective equipment and follows protocols that include frequent hand washing and the use of gloves and face masks.
IECH facilities—operating, recovery, and consulting rooms, as well as offices—are constantly sanitized following the appropriate guidelines.
Despite these measures, it is impossible to completely eliminate the risk of contagion in any public space. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that you will not contract COVID-19 while visiting our facilities and/or hospital. Given these circumstances, various fertility organizations, such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), have published the following guidelines:
If the patient and her partner have no symptoms and are at low risk of infection*, she can undergo the fertility treatment with strict sanitary measures.
Patients who have had COVID-19 (confirmed by scientific medical evidence) and have since recovered should be tested for anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgM / IgG antibodies before continuing treatment.
- If the patient or her partner have nonspecific symptoms of COVID-19 before starting ovarian stimulation and the test is negative, treatment may be continued. However, if symptoms persist, the test should be performed again before follicular aspiration
- If the patient or her partner have nonspecific COVID-19 symptoms during ovarian stimulation, a COVID-19 test should be performed. If results are negative, treatment may continue; however, if symptoms persist, the procedure will be canceled.
If the patient or her partner have COVID-19 symptoms and the test results are positive, the treatment will be canceled at any point in the cycle.
If the procedure is canceled during stimulation or at any other stage of the treatment, expenses incurred for medicines and tests will NOT be reimbursed.
*Patients who do not have COVID-19 symptoms (fever and/or cough, shortness of breath, joint pain, fatigue, loss of smell, or diarrhea) and who have not had recent contact with an individual diagnosed with the disease.
The extent to which pregnancy makes women more likely to contract COVID-19 or present complications from the disease is still unclear. Certain febrile illnesses and some viral infections, such as the flu, can have adverse effects on mothers and their babies. Although scientific studies on COVID-19 have not identified said effects, they cannot be ruled out in their entirety.
According to various scientific studies published by ASRM and ESHRE, no presence of the virus or traces of infection have been found in semen, eggs, embryos, and nitrogen tanks where cells are cryopreserved. The results of these studies give us confidence to carry out assisted reproductive procedures. However, we cannot yet conclude that the risk of contagion is non-existent.
